199 Greenfield Ave., 2nd Floor, San Rafael. The chief provider of transitional and long-term housing and support services for homeless in Marin. Provides a safe place to stay for approximately 2,000 people, including 200 or more children, each year. (415) 457-2114
Mill Street Center
190 Mill St., San Rafael (415) 457-9651 or 800-428-1488. The 40-bed center serves single adult men and women. Twenty beds are designated for emergency night-to-night stays. Another 20 beds are reserved for adults wishing to end homelessness in their lives. These people create an action plan and work toward their goals during stays of up to six weeks. In turn, staff support the residents with around-the-clock counseling and daily workshops. A good place to start.
New Beginnings Center
1399 N. Hamilton Parkway Novato. 415-382-3532. Homeless shelter located on decommissioned Air Force Base. Residents learn to identify and participate job workshops. Healthcare, around-the-clock counseling, an on-site 12-step program, and other services to help residents move into long-term housing. On site vocational training includes Culinary Academy, Garden Maintenance, Janitorial and Building Maintenance, Public Works, and Computer Skills Classes. Requires transition from the Mill Street Center.
Voyager Carmel Center
830 B Street, San Rafael. 415-459-5843. 35-bed capacity, with 10 beds for residents staying an average of one to four months. The remaining 25 beds are for long-term residents. Adults participate in programs focused on enhancing individual strengths through symptom management, crisis prevention, basic living skills improvement, community building, and job readiness and retention.
Fourth Street Center
1111 4th St., San Rafael. 415-457-0125. This center provides long-term housing for 20 single adults. Counseling and other support services are also provided. Income from commercial tenants on the ground floor helps support ongoing services for the residents.

MAWS – Marin Abused Women’s Services
Hotline: (415) 924-6616 - Provides a safe, confidential place for battered women and children. Shelter staff help women evaluate their options and plans. Legal Aid of Marin
30 N. San Pedro Rd. #220, San Rafael. (415) 492-0230. Provides quality legal services, direct representation, and pro per support services to low income and homeless Marin County residents. Helps especially with problems related to housing, employment, child dependency, domestic violence prevention, and debtor rights. Located near the Marin Civic Center.
